Thomas Hischak, professor of theatre emeritus, had two of his books released in January. The Abbott Touch: Pal Joey, Damn Yankees, and the Theatre of George Abbott have been published by Methuan Drama (London). The fourth edition of the textbook Theatre as Human Action: An Introduction to Theatre Arts has been released by Rowman & Littlefield. The new edition was co-authored by Mark A. Robinson.

Philip J. Buckenmeyer, Jeffery A. Bauer, James F. Hokanson and Joy L. Hendrick, Kinesiology Department, received notice that their article “Cognitive influence of a 5-hour ENERGY® Shot; Are Effects Perceived or Real?” will be published in Physiology & Behavior. In the study, the 5-hour Energy Shot® did not significantly improve short- or long-term cognitive function for selected computer-based tasks despite a high level of perception that it was working effectively compared to a placebo with college-aged participants.
Ute Ritz-Deutch
Ute Ritz-Deutch, History Department, will moderate the immigration panel at the annual Northeast Regional Conference of Amnesty International set for Saturday, Nov. 10, at Boston University. The conference, which consists of panels and workshops covering a range of human rights issues, will be held at Boston University. Ritz-Deutch is one of the organizers of the conference and the faculty advisor for the SUNY Cortland Amnesty International student group.

Julie Ficarra, International Programs Office, gave a keynote address titled “Using Critical Discourse Analysis to Locate Hidden Curriculum in Study Abroad” at the NAFSA Research Symposium in Washington D.C. The Association of International Educators’ symposium brings together scholars and practitioners from across the field of international education for critical discussions of theories, methodologies, and practices in international education.

Rhiannon M. Maton, Foundations and Social Advocacy Department, was co-editor of the 1st edition of a Routledge Handbook, Handbook on Teachers’ Work: International Perspectives on Research and Practice.
Kathryn Kramer
Kathryn Kramer, Art and Art History Department, will have her most recent biennial exhibition report published in the May/June issue of Afterimage: The Journal of Media Arts and Cultural Criticism . Kramer has written exhibition reports for Afterimage since 2012. Her latest report examines Prospect.3 New Orleans, the third citywide exhibition of international contemporary art to be held in New Orleans since 2009.
David Kilpatrick
David Kilpatrick, Psychology Department, presented a paper on Feb. 24 at annual convention of the National Association of School Psychologists in Philadelphia, Pa. Approximately 35 school psychologists, school psychology graduate students and professors of school psychology attended his 50-minute presentation titled, “Supercharge your Reading Evaluations with the ‘Simple View’ of Reading.”
Evan Faulkenbury
Evan Faulkenbury, History Department, had his article about SUNY Cortland’s History Department published in the Oct. 20 issue of Perspectives in History. It is titled “Practicing History: Why SUNY Cortland Requires Public History.” Also, his article “Journalism, COVID-19, and the Opportunity of Oral History” was published in the Oral History Review in September.
Gregory D. Phelan
Gregory D. Phelan, Chemistry Department, presented results of his research at the American Chemical Society’s 245th National Meeting held in April in New Orleans, La. The presentation was titled “Plasticizers, Supersurfactants, and Cosmeceutical Additives Produced from Derivatives of Acetone” and was presented during a session of the Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Division.

Dan Harms, Memorial Library, presented at the International Congress of Medieval Studies, held virtually May 10 to 15. He presented “Scrying with the Saints: Holy Personalities and Their Marginality in Early Modern Magic” on May 12.
