James Hokanson

James Hokanson, Kinesiology Department, was senior investigator on a research study with kinesiology undergraduate student Allison Schumann, who was awarded Top Five Student Researcher at the American College of Sports Medicine regional conference held Nov. 3 and 4 in Harrisburg, Pa. There were more than 100 submissions from colleges and research 1 universities throughout the mid-Atlantic region, and over 700 attendees. Their research explores running economy on a lower body positive pressure treadmill.

Jeanine Rose

Jeanine Rose, Academic Support and Achievement Program, presented on methods of electronic recordkeeping, reporting and surveying for supplemental instruction at the Northeastern Regional Supplemental Instruction (NERSI) Conference in Lowell, Mass. 

John Suarez

John Suarez, Institute for Civic Engagement, hosted the SUNY Consortium of Community Engaged Leaders’ first roundtable discussion, “Convening and Facilitating Community Forums.” Public deliberations are a kind of community forum. Suarez described the nature and purposes of community forums and identified steps for planning and conducting a forum. Participants then discussed related ideas such as working with the United Way to do a poverty simulation activity called the A.L.I.C.E. (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) Project and connecting with ThinkTank-inc.org. Participants included faculty and staff from Albany, Canton, Delhi, Empire State College and Upstate Medical Center.

Anna Curtis

Anna Curtis, Sociology/Anthropology Department, presented a paper titled “Paternity and the Paradigms of Possibility: Comparing Two Fatherhood Programs in American Prisons” at the 2015 International Conference on Masculinities held March 5-7 in New York City.

Richard Hunter

Richard Hunter, Geography Department, has been appointed a contributing editor to the Handbook of Latin American Studies. Edited by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress, the Handbook is the oldest and most prestigious areas studies bibliography in the world.

Brian Barrett

Brian Barrett, Foundations and Social Advocacy Department, had his book, Basil Bernstein: Code theory and beyond, published by Springer.

Robert Spitzer

Robert Spitzer, Political Science Department, is the author of an article titled “Gun Law History in the United States and Second Amendment Rights,” published in the most recent issue of the journal Law and Contemporary Problems.

Jared Rosenberg

Jared Rosenberg, visiting assistant professor in the Kinesiology Department, was an invited speaker to Le Moyne College’s Natural Science Seminar Series on Friday, Sept. 20. His talk was titled “Caloric restriction, Diet, and Metabolic Disorders.” Also, Rosenberg was the third author on a publication titled, “Single point insulin sensitivity estimator index for identifying metabolic syndrome in US adults: HJANES 2017-march 2020,” recently published in the July-August journal Obesity Research & Clinical Practice.  

Rhiannon Maton

Rhiannon Maton, Foundations and Social Advocacy Department, recently had her interview with Laval University faculty member Nat Nesvaderani published in the journal Spectre. The article is titled “'We Won!': University Professors Strike in Quebec City.” 

Kathryn Kramer

Kathryn Kramer, Art and Art History Department, presented “Flanerie’s Art and Measure of the Globalizing City” at the College Art Association (CAA) conference in February. In March, she presented an expanded version of the CAA lecture for Shanghai Flaneur, a cultural think tank in Shanghai, China. In addition, her review of the Shanghai Biennale will appear in the Sept./Oct. 2013 issue of Afterimage: The Journal of Media Art and Cultural Criticism
