Robert Spitzer
Robert Spitzer, Political Science Department, has been appointed to a three-year term to serve on the SUNY Research Council. The council is a 15-member body that serves in an advisory capacity to the SUNY Board of Trustees, the SUNY Chancellor and the Research Foundation. Its purpose is to advise and make recommendations on research, innovation, and education for the SUNY system and the state. The board members consist of scholars of many disciplines from around the country.
Peter Ducey
Peter Ducey, Biological Sciences Department, recently served as a judge in the area of ecology and environmental biology for the national Sigma Xi 2015 Student Research Showcase. Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, is the international honor society of science and engineering and is one of the oldest and largest scientific organizations in the world. In the Research Showcase, outstanding graduate, undergraduate and high school students join professional research scientists from North America and abroad to present their research findings. Also, Ducey recently gave an invited presentation at Cornell University titled “Leaving No Stones Unturned: Science and Careers Related to Herpetofauna and Other Amazing, but Often Hidden, Creatures.” The Cornell Herpetological Society hosted the presentation.
Matt Whitman
Matt Whitman, an AmeriCorps member in service with the Institute for Civic Engagement, was recognized on May 6 by the Southern Tier Opportunity Coalition in Binghamton, N.Y., as a recipient of a “20 in their Twenties” award for young people from the Binghamton area making a difference in their communities. Mary Schlarb
Mary Schlarb, International Programs, recently received the Clark Center for Global Engagement Internationalization Award. It honors SUNY Cortland faculty and staff who have performed outstanding work in global engagement. Schlarb has done outstanding work to promote global engagement by increasing the number of SUNY Cortland study abroad opportunities for students. This has led to a greater number of students studying abroad and an increase of faculty involved in faculty-led study abroad programs.

Robert Spitzer
Robert Spitzer, Political Science Department, an original panelist on the WCNY public affairs program, “Ivory Tower,” program, recently learned from WCNY that the program has been nominated for an Emmy Award in the category of “Public/Current/Community Affairs.” Broadcast weekly since 2002, the “Ivory Tower” is the highest rated local television program in Central New York. Panelists from area universities discuss the news of the week, and conclude with A’s and F’s, during the half-hour show that airs Fridays at 8 p.m.

Peter M. McGinnis, Kinesiology Department, recently had a Polish translation of the third edition of his textbook published. Biomechanics of Sport and Exercise (Biomechanika W Sporcie I Cwiczeniach Ruchowych), has been published by Edra Urban & Partner in Poland.
Teagan Bradway
Teagan Bradway, English Department, gave an invited lecture on Nov. 8 to the Centre for Cultural Inquiry at the University of Konstanz in Germany. Her talk, “Throuple Plots: Narrative Infrastructures of Queer Kinship,” is drawn from her book-in-progress on the representation of kinship in contemporary LGBTQ+ literature and film.
